Both!
I was up before the sun today (I did that on purpose! I love my early morning me time!) and decided to poke around through my much-neglected blog reader. I saw this and followed it through Pinterest to this and knew I had to make some straight away. Don’t you just love Pinterest for that? So I pinned it and gathered the supplies.
Then a bolt of inspiration struck. Or maybe that was the caffeine kicking in?
Security envelopes!
Some see them as office supplies or recycling bin fodder…I see crafty awesomeness!
So I put all of the paint away and dug out the envelopes and Mod Podge and got started.
At 5:30 a.m.
By 7:30 I had the paper Podged (yes, that is totally a word) to the sticks and they were resting for a nice long dry.
Want to make some? Here’s how:
Trace the sticks and cut the shapes out.
Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the paper and smooth the paper onto the Popsicle sticks. Do not put the Mod Podge on the sticks and then stick the paper to it. This will create unsightly bubbles. Ask me how I know.
Let everything dry completely, then apply another thin layer of Mod Podge over the paper. Here’s where you could get crafty and add glitter (!!!!) but I restrained myself because these are for a two year old and I do not want to clean *that* mess.
Grab some magnets off of your fridge and cut them to size. What? You have no magnets? Take some of mine! Please!!!
Apply them to the back of your Popsicle sticks with a hot glue gun.
Stick ‘em on the fridge, hand them to your kid, or wrap them in a bow and give them to your friend! Because seriously, who would not want to play with these things? SO CUTE!
Since I am Ms. Organization (stop laughing!), I rooted around in the cabinet for an appropriate storage container.
And then glued a magnet to it so it could hang out on the fridge too!
Go make some! Seriously, you already have this stuff in your cabinets somewhere. You could use wrapping paper and cardboard, or construction paper and shapes cut from take out containers, or old book pages for a literary twist. And you don’t have to use Mod Podge, I just happened to have that sitting around because I am a (reformed) craft supply hoarder. Any old craft/school glue would work just fine. The idea is to use what you have! And then come back and show me what you made because this stuff is fun! =)
(I’m feeling a security envelope alphabet set coming on, uh oh.)
