It’s been awhile! School is really keeping me busy this semester since I’m (finally!!!) working on my Capstone courses and preparing for graduation in December! I do miss my little corner of the Internet but there is just so much work and doing and making that…well…
Anyway.
We went for a little hike near Jim Thorpe last weekend! (Remind me to tell you about my ghost hunting adventures there sometime, eh?) We “hiked” part of the D&L Trail, which is a rail-trail that follows the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway in parts. It was a super-easy hike to do with the munchkin because it was a flat gravel path, although I would highly recommend a good hiking/jogging stroller for the trip. We started at the Jim Thorpe trailhead, which was about 2 miles from downtown. Next time we’ll probably start further up so we can see more water, but this time was cool because we found an old train resting area and a creepy spooky campground with a bunch of what looked like abandoned RVs.
It was a gorgeous day! Lots of sun, nice breeze, and wow! How pretty!
We saw this cool tunnel as we were walking the trail and thought, “Wow, it would be cool to find a way in there somehow!” And then we realized there were people standing at the fence!
So on our way back we figured out that if you go behind a parking lot there is a little entrance. NOT baby friendly, though, so we had to take turns exploring.
It was dark. You really need a flashlight if you want to avoid puddles and rocks and the parts of ceiling that collapsed onto the floor (!!!!). Thank goodness for iPhones! =)
I didn’t realize until I was all the way in how deep the tunnel is! Here’s looking out to where I started:
That picture would have been so much better if there hadn’t been birds flying at me trying to attack my camera! They were really mad so I made a hasty retreat.
We splashed around in the river for a bit!
Munchkin had a blast making big splashes in the water.
And trains!
A wooden caboose!
Swoon!!!
I do love trains! I could have spent hours checking them out but little man was on a mission to get some grub.
If you go to Jim Thorpe, you really need to go to Molly Maguires Pub. Seriously! I was bummed about seeing the creepycute little old diner gone, but the covered deck that was built where it stood is almost as cool.
The food was really yummy but the little guy thought the milk was the best part. Because it had a straw!
