So, I’ve had this yarn sitting around for years.
I’ve been dying to dye it. For years.
Finally got around to it!
Leethal put together an AWESOME tutorial, and I decided to follow her instructions. Except there is one thing: I decided to dye two skeins at the same time.
This was a mistake.
I dumped in 3 packets of each color and figured I’d dump the other 3 packets after (carefully) flipping the yarn. Which I did. But there are a lot of white spots left — this yarn realllllly sucked up all of the Kool-Aid, and super-fast. Since the little man was asleep and there was no going off to the market, I improvised. I had lots of different flavors of Crystal Lite that were just ICK!!!! So I sprinkled them over the yarn at random.
But not my beloved Mojito flavor, though. Nope. Not happening.
So pretty much all of the Crystal Lite and Kool-Aid in the house got dumped on the yarn.
Hung it out to dry.
I’m actually pretty pleased with how it turned out except for the dominant red color…that was really not what I had in mind at all. And I know the variegation is going to be not so perfect for what I have planned for it since it involves mock cables: Honey. That’s ok. I am loving the pattern (give you a peek next post, and I pinky-swear it will happen sooner than five months from now!) so I’ll just have to dye more yarn and do it again!
So yes! Yarn dyeing is fun and easy! You should totally try it! Just make sure you have more Kool-Aid than you think you need, because you will need it.
